COURSE OVERVIEW

In this course, learners will develop a strong understanding of graphs and how they are used to represent relationships between variables.

Learners will learn how to work with the Cartesian plane, identify and plot ordered pairs, interpret information from graphs, recognise relationships between variables and draw graphs from tables and mathematical relationships.

The course builds on the concepts developed in Input & Output Values and Functions & Relationships and prepares learners for more advanced work with functions and graphs in later grades.

The course includes video lessons, worked examples, quizzes and a mastery test to help learners develop graphical reasoning and prepare for Grade 8 CAPS Mathematics assessments.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, learners should be able to:

• Understand the purpose of graphs.
• Understand the Cartesian plane.
• Identify the horizontal and vertical axes.
• Understand the meaning of the xx-axis and yy-axis.
• Understand and identify ordered pairs (x;y)(x;y).
• Plot points correctly on the Cartesian plane.
• Determine the coordinates of points from a graph.
• Represent relationships using tables and graphs.
• Draw graphs from given sets of values.
• Interpret information represented graphically.
• Describe relationships and trends shown by graphs.
• Solve Grade 8 CAPS exam-style questions involving graphs.
