Grade 9 Mathematics – Data Handling Problem Solving
COURSE OVERVIEW
This course brings together the key concepts and skills developed throughout Grade 9 Data Handling.
Learners will work with raw data, frequency tables, statistical graphs, measures of central tendency, range and data distributions to solve increasingly complex problems. They will be required to select appropriate methods, perform calculations, interpret results and justify conclusions using statistical evidence.
Particular emphasis is placed on multi-step problem solving, statistical reasoning and exam preparation, rather than simply applying isolated procedures.
Through worked examples, quizzes, real-world applications and exam-style investigations, learners will develop the confidence to approach unfamiliar Data Handling questions in Grade 9 examinations and prepare for FET Phase Mathematics.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, learners should be able to:
- Analyse raw and organised data.
- Organise data using appropriate tables.
- Select suitable statistical representations.
- Interpret tables and graphs.
- Calculate mean, median and mode.
- Calculate and interpret the range.
- Compare different data sets.
- Analyse patterns, trends and distributions.
- Calculate missing values from statistical information.
- Work with frequencies, proportions and percentages.
- Identify potentially misleading representations.
- Evaluate conclusions made from data.
- Justify conclusions using statistical evidence.
- Combine several Data Handling concepts in one problem.
